Happy 1st Birthday Tyler!
Tyler turned 1 today! We asked her if she felt any older, but she didn’t give a response. I guess she just feels the same. She did get to try out her first cake and the icing was a HUGE hit. Even if it was a sugar, egg and wheat free cake. She did say that she’s looking forward to her second cake on Saturday at her party.

10 McDonald’s Cheeseburgers = $110
It was Rick’s birthday on Saturday and to celebrate we had a cheeseburger eating contest at McDonald’s. The management at McDonald’s wasn’t overly happy with us having the contest there, but they still let us have it as long as we didn’t throw up in the restaurant or on the premises. I’m happy to report that not one contestant threw up. Obviously nobody pushed themselves hard enough. We had 30 minutes to eat as many cheeseburgers as we could and in the end I ate the most. And with my $10 buy in I won the $110 pot. I do have to throw some respect Kevin’s way. He came in 10 minutes late and was still able to pack away 8 cheeseburgers. If he had the full amount of time, I probably would have gone down. Here are the final results:
Martin – 9 3/4
Brandon – 9 1/2
Dan – 9
Kevin – 8
Casey – 5
Thor – 5
Tommy – 4
Next time I think we need to have a sushi eating contest. With all you can eat it would almost be cheaper per person than the cheeseburgers.

What’s Been Going On?
It’s been a while since we last submitted an update. As all of you may know Scruffy passed away suddenly earlier this year and updates to our site seemed kind of pointless for a while. There has been a lot going on though and Tyler keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Tyler is now walking along furniture, walking with her bubble mower and can crawl like crazy! She has quite the personality too. She’s saying stuff like Mama, Dada, Grampa, Grama, Titan (Grampa’s dog), bye bye, and she waves and signs that she’s all done eating. She’s giggly as always and is such a great kid! Sleeps through the night, happily takes naps, eats well and has fun all the time. Especially when she’s pulling on the toilet paper roll, sometimes emptying it. She’s also exploring various new foods while helping Mom unpack our vegetable order. Garlic and green pepper went down pretty well. There are a bunch of new pictures of Tyler to check out. Tyler was also in a photo shoot for our friends baby store, Blue Sky Baby in Mission, so you might see her in an ad in The Post newspaper in Mission or Abbotsford.
Two weeks ago we went to Mexico for a one week vacation. We stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Resort in the Mayan Riviera. The resort, weather and ocean were all beautiful. We explored caves, visited the Tulum ruins, shopped at Playa Del Carman, and enjoyed the beaches and pools. Tyler did go with us and she had a great times in the pools, exploring the beaches and going on walks in her carrier. And whenever it was time for a nap or bed, we would lay her in her stroller to sleep so that we could enjoy the pool, beach, entertainment or just go for a nice walk around the resort. It was a great time and we wish we could have brought some of the beautiful weather home with us. Feel free to check out the pictures from our trip.
That’s about it for now. We hope everyone is doing well!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!
It’s been a busy holiday season and it keeps on going. At least we’ve had the shopping done for a few weeks so we have been able to enjoy our friends and family throughout the holidays. We had perfect snowy weather when we went to cut down our tree and then the next day we received about a foot of snow. A week later it was Melissa’s 28th birthday. As for updates on Tyler she’s 7 1/2 months, she now has 4 teeth with more on the way and she’s been doing a commando style crawl for about a month and now she’s starting to get into a full crawl. She’s also saying “Ma ma ma maam ma” and “Ba ba baab ba ba”! She’s still on solid foods and on Christmas she’ll get turkey!! Yum yum!
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all of our friends & family! We hope you’re all taking time out to enjoy the season.

Boy Can Tyler Eat!!
You never know how a baby will take to eating rice cereal and other solid foods, but in our case Tyler LOVES it! She tried her first rice cereal on September 30th and enjoyed every spoonful. We expected it to be all over her face, but she wasn’t going to waste any of it. It was only while she was feeding herself that she missed her mouth. She really wanted to hold that spoon!!

Guess Who has Teeth?!
Well she has one tooth that has broken through and she has a second one well on the way. Besides drool and some rosy cheeks you would never know that she’s teething. She has gotten into the habit of bringing peoples hands to her mouth and when she was gnawing on Daddy’s finger he felt a scrape. And yes it turned out to be her lower incisor. She isn’t even 4 months old yet and already she has teeth. At this rate she’ll be walking by Christmas.
Please no!!

Tyler’s First Camping Trip
This past Saturday we packed up the kids and headed on a road trip to Tofino with our friends Monnu, Heather, Casey, Colin, Karen and Richard. The weather network was calling for rain and thunder showers, but they were wrong as usual. The weather ended up being great for most of the days. We had one day of very light rain and other than that it was either overcast or sunny and warm out.
We camped at the Bella Pacifica camp grounds. The camp sites were nice, though some of them were pretty cramped. We ended up with a double site and were able to fit three tents on the site with room for one more. The best part about the camp site is that it was about 5 feet from the beach.
We surfed on Sunday, chilled out on Monday and then surfed again on Tuesday where the waves ended up being about 4 feet high. It was scary at times, though overall it was sooooooo much fun!! We’re definitely hooked!
Tyler was great during the entire trip. She slept her usual 10 hours at night and would only fuss when she was hungry or tired. She’s such an easy kid.
For Scruffy this camping trip was more of a nightmare. He’s not a fan of water and in this case he was surrounded by it. He was more than comfortable chilling by the fire and chasing birds and other dogs away from our campsite and beach blankets.

Congratulations Melissa!!! BA in Criminal Justice
Melissa and I started off going to UCFV full-time together back in 1997. Then when we got married and moved out of the parents’ houses, I continued on to finish my degree and take a few co-op work terms while Melissa managed various Rogers Video locations. It was great once I graduated because Melissa could finally quit Rogers and continue her schooling. And now here we are, two and a half years later and Melissa has her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Melissa’s going to take some time off to raise our little miss and when she’s ready, Melissa plans to work her way up to a Justice of the Peace position in the courts system.

4 Weeks Later….
It’s funny how it can feel both like Tyler’s been here forever, a natural fit into our lives; and yet at the same time it feels like “wow, I can’t believe she’s already 4 weeks old!” She already has so much personality and we can see the changes in her from the squishy-faced, blurry-eyed stranger to the wide-eyed cutey-cute who lifts her head and follows objects and smiles and giggles (magical sounds!!!) and loves baths and pees just as her mommy opens her diaper or shoots poop across her room onto the wall (mommy laughed hysterically at that one, even as she cleaned it up at 5am). She has her first cold, or a congested nose anyhow. She sounds like Darth Vader and she blows snot bubbles at mommy as she nurses. Very attractive…. Daddy’s been diligent at sucking out her boogies with the asperator and spraying her nose with saline solution, while mommy sticks to giving her food, cuddles, and extra baths to make her happy (the less traumatizing remedies). Scruffy’s been so territorial of her, it’s cute! And he’s getting better about not lying ON her when he goes to cuddle with her. He’s ever so gentle when he takes treats from her ‘paws.’ At the rate that she’s growing, she’ll be bigger then him in no time. We went to the health nurse today and weighed her, she’s now 8lbs 14oz’s, which works out to her gaining about an ounce a day! (That’s pretty good in baby terms). So that means we’re doing an ok job at being parents, and she’s doing a pretty great job at being a baby (and an easy one at that!)
