Oregon Surfing 2008

oregonThis past week we went to Cannon Beach, Oregon for a surfing trip. We only ended up getting in two days of surfing, which was a bummer, but we had lots of great camp fires, walks on the beach, roller blades with Tyler in her stroller, great deals shopping and some great food. Okay, the food got a little repetative with the hots dogs and burgers, but we did finish off most of them. And what we didn’t finish we fed to the birds. One seagull ate a whole hotdog in one bite. We stayed in a great place that was only 1 block from the beach. We HIGHLY recommend it. For the price I don’t think you’ll find a better place in Cannon Beach to sleep 8 people. We also HIGHLY recommend The Original Pancake house. The pancakes were the best that we have tasted anywhere! The only catch is that they’re open from 6AM to 2PM every day. Don’t be late and don’t order anything other than a big plate of pancakes. As for stuff we don’t recommend, I would not recommend Cannon Beach Surf Shop. The staff were rude, including the owner, and the rental gear STANK like smelly socks. It actually stank worse than that, but I can’t find the words to explain how brutal it was. Check out the pics of the trip to see some of our adventures. We’ll get some surfing pictures once we collect the photos from everyone else.

Tyler & Daddy Picking Blueberries

Tyler and I went blueberry picking the other day. It was pretty easy to keep her content. I just rolled her up to a blueberry bush and she would pick it clean. Even the green one’s. Check out the video for some more Tyler fun.

Tyler’s First Video Game

Tyler played her first video game the other day. It’s called BabySmash and it’s really easy. All you have to do is smash the keys on the keyboard and shapes and letters pop up on the screen while giggle sounds play. Parental supervision is required especially if it’s on a laptop. Tyler swiped Melissa’s enter key a few months ago and popped off my backslash key the other day. Here’s a video of Tyler’s first time playin’.

Thanks for Partying with Me!!

Thank you to everyone who came to my first birthday party! I had a great time! I hope my friends who couldn’t make it are feeling all better. I really feel spoiled with all of the presents that I received. It was lots of fun opening all of the gifts and I’m having even more fun reading the books, playing with the toys, and wearing my new clothes. I can’t wait to party it up on my friends birthdays, now that I’ve gotten the taste for cake.

Happy 1st Birthday Tyler!

1st birthdayTyler turned 1 today! We asked her if she felt any older, but she didn’t give a response. I guess she just feels the same. She did get to try out her first cake and the icing was a HUGE hit. Even if it was a sugar, egg and wheat free cake. She did say that she’s looking forward to her second cake on Saturday at her party.

10 McDonald’s Cheeseburgers = $110

cheesburgersIt was Rick’s birthday on Saturday and to celebrate we had a cheeseburger eating contest at McDonald’s. The management at McDonald’s wasn’t overly happy with us having the contest there, but they still let us have it as long as we didn’t throw up in the restaurant or on the premises. I’m happy to report that not one contestant threw up. Obviously nobody pushed themselves hard enough. We had 30 minutes to eat as many cheeseburgers as we could and in the end I ate the most. And with my $10 buy in I won the $110 pot. I do have to throw some respect Kevin’s way. He came in 10 minutes late and was still able to pack away 8 cheeseburgers. If he had the full amount of time, I probably would have gone down. Here are the final results:

Martin – 9 3/4
Brandon – 9 1/2
Dan – 9
Kevin – 8
Casey – 5
Thor – 5
Tommy – 4

Next time I think we need to have a sushi eating contest. With all you can eat it would almost be cheaper per person than the cheeseburgers.

What’s Been Going On?

It’s been a while since we last submitted an update. As all of you may know Scruffy passed away suddenly earlier this year and updates to our site seemed kind of pointless for a while. There has been a lot going on though and Tyler keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Tyler is now walking along furniture, walking with her bubble mower and can crawl like crazy! She has quite the personality too. She’s saying stuff like Mama, Dada, Grampa, Grama, Titan (Grampa’s dog), bye bye, and she waves and signs that she’s all done eating. She’s giggly as always and is such a great kid! Sleeps through the night, happily takes naps, eats well and has fun all the time. Especially when she’s pulling on the toilet paper roll, sometimes emptying it. She’s also exploring various new foods while helping Mom unpack our vegetable order. Garlic and green pepper went down pretty well. There are a bunch of new pictures of Tyler to check out. Tyler was also in a photo shoot for our friends baby store, Blue Sky Baby in Mission, so you might see her in an ad in The Post newspaper in Mission or Abbotsford.

Two weeks ago we went to Mexico for a one week vacation. We stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Resort in the Mayan Riviera. The resort, weather and ocean were all beautiful. We explored caves, visited the Tulum ruins, shopped at Playa Del Carman, and enjoyed the beaches and pools. Tyler did go with us and she had a great times in the pools, exploring the beaches and going on walks in her carrier. And whenever it was time for a nap or bed, we would lay her in her stroller to sleep so that we could enjoy the pool, beach, entertainment or just go for a nice walk around the resort. It was a great time and we wish we could have brought some of the beautiful weather home with us. Feel free to check out the pictures from our trip.

That’s about it for now. We hope everyone is doing well!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

happy holidays everyoneIt’s been a busy holiday season and it keeps on going. At least we’ve had the shopping done for a few weeks so we have been able to enjoy our friends and family throughout the holidays. We had perfect snowy weather when we went to cut down our tree and then the next day we received about a foot of snow. A week later it was Melissa’s 28th birthday. As for updates on Tyler she’s 7 1/2 months, she now has 4 teeth with more on the way and she’s been doing a commando style crawl for about a month and now she’s starting to get into a full crawl. She’s also saying “Ma ma ma maam ma” and “Ba ba baab ba ba”! She’s still on solid foods and on Christmas she’ll get turkey!! Yum yum!

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all of our friends & family! We hope you’re all taking time out to enjoy the season.

M & M & Scruffy & Lil’ Miss Tyler, Too!

Boy Can Tyler Eat!!

You never know how a baby will take to eating rice cereal and other solid foods, but in our case Tyler LOVES it! She tried her first rice cereal on September 30th and enjoyed every spoonful. We expected it to be all over her face, but she wasn’t going to waste any of it. It was only while she was feeding herself that she missed her mouth. She really wanted to hold that spoon!!
