Tyler’s First Camping Trip
This past Saturday we packed up the kids and headed on a road trip to Tofino with our friends Monnu, Heather, Casey, Colin, Karen and Richard. The weather network was calling for rain and thunder showers, but they were wrong as usual. The weather ended up being great for most of the days. We had one day of very light rain and other than that it was either overcast or sunny and warm out.
We camped at the Bella Pacifica camp grounds. The camp sites were nice, though some of them were pretty cramped. We ended up with a double site and were able to fit three tents on the site with room for one more. The best part about the camp site is that it was about 5 feet from the beach.
We surfed on Sunday, chilled out on Monday and then surfed again on Tuesday where the waves ended up being about 4 feet high. It was scary at times, though overall it was sooooooo much fun!! We’re definitely hooked!
Tyler was great during the entire trip. She slept her usual 10 hours at night and would only fuss when she was hungry or tired. She’s such an easy kid.
For Scruffy this camping trip was more of a nightmare. He’s not a fan of water and in this case he was surrounded by it. He was more than comfortable chilling by the fire and chasing birds and other dogs away from our campsite and beach blankets.

4 Weeks Later….
It’s funny how it can feel both like Tyler’s been here forever, a natural fit into our lives; and yet at the same time it feels like “wow, I can’t believe she’s already 4 weeks old!” She already has so much personality and we can see the changes in her from the squishy-faced, blurry-eyed stranger to the wide-eyed cutey-cute who lifts her head and follows objects and smiles and giggles (magical sounds!!!) and loves baths and pees just as her mommy opens her diaper or shoots poop across her room onto the wall (mommy laughed hysterically at that one, even as she cleaned it up at 5am). She has her first cold, or a congested nose anyhow. She sounds like Darth Vader and she blows snot bubbles at mommy as she nurses. Very attractive…. Daddy’s been diligent at sucking out her boogies with the asperator and spraying her nose with saline solution, while mommy sticks to giving her food, cuddles, and extra baths to make her happy (the less traumatizing remedies). Scruffy’s been so territorial of her, it’s cute! And he’s getting better about not lying ON her when he goes to cuddle with her. He’s ever so gentle when he takes treats from her ‘paws.’ At the rate that she’s growing, she’ll be bigger then him in no time. We went to the health nurse today and weighed her, she’s now 8lbs 14oz’s, which works out to her gaining about an ounce a day! (That’s pretty good in baby terms). So that means we’re doing an ok job at being parents, and she’s doing a pretty great job at being a baby (and an easy one at that!)

We’re home from the hospital
It was a long stay, but we’re back from the hospital. We only expected to be there for a couple of days, but that quickly extended to 4 days since we ended up having to go in for a C-section. The cord was wrapped around Tyler’s neck and it wasn’t letting her drop properly. Melissa has recovered beautifully and hopefully after a week of taking it easy we’ll be able to get out and about a little bit. We’ll just have to see how it goes.
It was great having all of our visitors at the hospital and we already have a few reservations for this weekend. If you want to stop by please give us a call first.
