Oregon Surfing 2008
This past week we went to Cannon Beach, Oregon for a surfing trip. We only ended up getting in two days of surfing, which was a bummer, but we had lots of great camp fires, walks on the beach, roller blades with Tyler in her stroller, great deals shopping and some great food. Okay, the food got a little repetative with the hots dogs and burgers, but we did finish off most of them. And what we didn’t finish we fed to the birds. One seagull ate a whole hotdog in one bite. We stayed in a great place that was only 1 block from the beach. We HIGHLY recommend it. For the price I don’t think you’ll find a better place in Cannon Beach to sleep 8 people. We also HIGHLY recommend The Original Pancake house. The pancakes were the best that we have tasted anywhere! The only catch is that they’re open from 6AM to 2PM every day. Don’t be late and don’t order anything other than a big plate of pancakes. As for stuff we don’t recommend, I would not recommend Cannon Beach Surf Shop. The staff were rude, including the owner, and the rental gear STANK like smelly socks. It actually stank worse than that, but I can’t find the words to explain how brutal it was. Check out the pics of the trip to see some of our adventures. We’ll get some surfing pictures once we collect the photos from everyone else.

Tyler’s First Camping Trip
This past Saturday we packed up the kids and headed on a road trip to Tofino with our friends Monnu, Heather, Casey, Colin, Karen and Richard. The weather network was calling for rain and thunder showers, but they were wrong as usual. The weather ended up being great for most of the days. We had one day of very light rain and other than that it was either overcast or sunny and warm out.
We camped at the Bella Pacifica camp grounds. The camp sites were nice, though some of them were pretty cramped. We ended up with a double site and were able to fit three tents on the site with room for one more. The best part about the camp site is that it was about 5 feet from the beach.
We surfed on Sunday, chilled out on Monday and then surfed again on Tuesday where the waves ended up being about 4 feet high. It was scary at times, though overall it was sooooooo much fun!! We’re definitely hooked!
Tyler was great during the entire trip. She slept her usual 10 hours at night and would only fuss when she was hungry or tired. She’s such an easy kid.
For Scruffy this camping trip was more of a nightmare. He’s not a fan of water and in this case he was surrounded by it. He was more than comfortable chilling by the fire and chasing birds and other dogs away from our campsite and beach blankets.

Safety First
Most dogs can swim, but Scruffy just isn’t one of those dogs. The first time we put him in water he sunk like a rock. Then he just sat there looking up at Melissa wondering when she would take him out of the water. On our last camping trip we decided to get Scruffy a life jacket. No only is it good for keeping him out of the water, but it’s also a great hande for carrying him around.
